At just under 1000 Meters above sea level Mount
Pantokrator is the island's highest peak. It is located on the north east of the
island and affords spectacular views of the north and east coasts along with
Albania and mainland Greece. On its summit is a monastery and the church of
Christ Pantocrator which originates from c.1350. Although the monastery is no longer
in use the church still holds regular services.

tourism.

Our apartments in Nissaki
are the ideal base for walking the numerous mountain paths
and tracks that
criss cross Mount Pantokrator. The walks
can vary from strenuous to an easy stroll.

The walker will experience the peace and
tranquility unknown to the majority of visitors to the island. You will see mountain villages where the way of life has changed very little over the years. There are also old deserted villages, some nothing more than complete ruins and others like the Marie Celeste, as if the occupants were just spirited away. |

The complete silence is only interrupted by the occasional hum of bees
and the tinkling of goats' bells sounding like trickling water. The view changes with every step.
One minute you can see Mount Pantokrator with its monastery sitting on
the summit and then the sea with the stark mountains of Albania in the distance. |

In May and June, before the most intense heat of
summer, the walker is
confronted with an explosion of colour as the flowers and shrubs
burst into
bloom. This is pay-back time
for the long rainy days of winter. The air is scented with wild sage, a magnet to the many butterflies
seeking out its flower. Eagles circle above taking advantage of the warm air currents. During
September and October there is a surprise for the walker. Once again many flowers start to bloom as if they want to do it one more
time before the winter months set in. The days are cooler now and the sun lower in the sky creating shades and
shadow not seen at any other time of the year. |

The
day’s walking over, return to the comfort of your apartment and look forward
to a time to relax by the pool and a well deserved meal and drink at one of the local tavernas.

If
you want to spend some time walking on Mount Pantokrator and the beautiful north
east coast, come and stay at our 1st class self-catering apartments in Nissaki
which are perfectly placed between the mountain and the sea.
You
will have the advantage of advice and suggestions from our resident English walking representative, who is a keen and active walker.
This
is a come and go as you please holiday. You will not be regimented or organised - come as an individual or as a party. If
you feel like a day off from walking then why not use Nissaki as a base to
explore the rest of the island by
boat or car.
